The Digit-al Dozen Redoes Art - Gerberas

Hello lovelies!

Day 4 of The Digit-al Dozen Redoes Art is here and I present another type of flower: The Gerbera. Guess who's work this is inspired by?

Picasso, Bouquet of Peace, 1958
Yeah baby, Picasso! I sort of did it, whoohoo! I figured, this drawing of his looks as if a three-year-old did it, so I should totally be able to do this, am I right? I also love the title that was given to this piece: "Bouquet of Peace", although Picasso, by that time, had become a communist idealist and would be twice awarded the Lenin Peace Prize, a concept which sounds like a paradox. Anyways, further research points out Picasso seems to have genuinely craved peace. I think the entire world can relate to that right now. This litograph, which was originally a water colour drawing, was created for a peace demonstration in Stockholm in 1958.

I decided the flowers in the litograph to be gerberas in unlikely colour combinations.

The funny thing is, that translating the specific way Picasso drew this, reveals the deliberacy with which this piece was originally created. It is not as easy as it seems, which is why my rendition did not turn out exactly as Picasso's. Upon further investigation, Picasso struggled with it as well: Picasso once remarked upon passing a group of school kids in his old age, "When I was as old as these children, I could draw like Raphael, but it took me a lifetime to learn to draw like them." I thought that was kinda cool ;)

I started with a base of Essie "Private Weekend" and used my detail brush for the flowers and a striper for the stems. I sort of mixed and matched a bunch of polishes to get the desired shades, including Essence "Little Miss Sunrise" (yellow) "Flashy Pumpkin" (orange), W7 "Pillar Box Red", a HEMA blue, a Colorama green and Risque purple (from Brazil), Gosh "Forest Floor" and that blurple from Poland, Bell Secretale no. 8.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this manicure!
And while you're at it, take a look below to see the other ladies' artworks!
